What is deoxycholic acid?
Double chin cosmetic treatment
Deoxycholic acid is the first non-surgical injectable treatment approved in Canada to improve the appearance of fullness under the chin (double chin). It is a simple and quick injectable procedure that is performed in clinic in about 15 to 20 minutes. Deoxycholic acid is injected into the fat under the chin in order to target fat cells.
The active ingredient is a non-human, non-animal form of deoxycholic acid, a molecule naturally found in the human body that helps break down dietary fat.
Once the desired result is achieved, it is usually not necessary to repeat the treatment.
What is the treatment?
Redefine your profile with deoxycholic acid
Deoxycholic acid is injected into the excess fat under the chin in a clinical environment.
Each session takes 15 to 20 minutes. Depending on the patient’s aesthetic goals, Dr. Fanous adjusts the amount of product injected. Before the injection, Dr. Fanous applies both topical and injectable local anesthesia to ensure the treatment is nearly painless and comfortable.
Many patients treated with deoxycholic acid notice a visible improvement in their chin profile after 2 to 4 treatments. For some patients, up to 6 treatments may be required to achieve the desired result. In general, once the desired outcome is reached, no further treatments are needed.
Side Effects
Essential information on potential post-treatment reactions.
Like for every injectable treatment, side effects can appear after a deoxycholic acid treatment, such as swelling, bruising, pain, redness, numbness, dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), etc.
Weakness of the facial nerve and temporary loss of facial movement have also been reported during clinical trials. Most side effects were mild to moderate in intensity and frequency and tended to decrease with subsequent deoxycholic acid treatments.
